Nepali dictionary's new edition soon

HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE KATHMANDU: Nepal Academy is bringing out a new edition of Nepali dictionary with 100,000 Nepali words for the first time.

Nepal Academy had published the seventh edition of Nepali Comprehensive Dictionary (NCD) with 62,000 Nepali words, which has been made available in the market since yesterday. The Academy had published the first edition in 1984.

With the aim of collecting more Nepali words to enrich the Nepali vocabulary, Nepal Academy today began a three-day long Nepali Language Conference in Kathmandu.

The conference was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Madhav Kumar Nepal. More than 100 Nepali language experts from various universities in Nepal and India, experts from media houses and publication houses participated in the conference.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ganga Prasad Upreti, Vice Chancellor of Nepal Academy said the main objective of the conference was to open discussion among language experts to enhance the Nepali vocabulary. He said, “Participants from various universities in Nepal and Nepali Department of Banaras University and Uttar Bangal University were here to suggest new Nepali words.”

According to Upreti, the new edition of NCD will be published in a year.

PM Nepal urged all Nepalis to love the Nepali language as it is our identification. He said, “Our language indicates our history and individual identity.
