Minister Rijal demands NC-led govt

RSS KATHMANDU: Minister for Culture and leader of the Nepali Congress (NC), Dr Minendra Rijal said the peace process will be concluded and constitution written only if the new government is led by the Nepali Congress.
Speaking at an interaction at the Reporters' Club in the capital on Sunday, Minister Dr Rijal expressed his confidence that the UCPN-Maoist and the CPN-UML will help make the government under the leadership of the Nepali Congress keeping intact the democratic alliance.
The NC has formally decided that it will not help Maoist-led government, he said, reasoning that the Maoist-led government can not carry out the tasks of concluding peace process and writing constitution.
He further said the Maoist leadership is not acceptable until it changes itself as a civilian party with the integration and rehabilitation of PLA fighters and the management of arms.
However, Maoist leader Hishila Yami argued that as the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML had agreed to accept the Maoist leadership after the PLA fighters were brought under the purview of the special committee, the new government must be led by the Maoist.
The Nepali Congress and the UML have repeatedly told the Maoist party to become a civilian party, leader Yami said, urging these parties to be democratic and accept the Maoist-led government.
Similarly, CPN-UML leader Dr Banshidhar Mishra stressed on making a national consensus government for the peace process and constitution writing.
