JANAKPURDHAM: A driver died when a tractor bound for Dhabauli from Laliya met with an accident in Belahi VDC of Dhanusha on Monday. Police identified the dead as Bijaya Kumar Haluwai (23). Hurt in the accident, two others are receiving treatment at a local health facility. 12-year-old missing

MAHENDRANAGAR: Gobinda Bista (12) of Bhimdutta municipality-16, Basantapur, has been missing since Monday evening. Gobinda had returned home from school at 4 pm on Saturday after attending a Martyrs Day programme, his father Ganesh Singh Bista said, adding that the boy had left home immediately. Ganesh said family members could not find the boy even after searching for him throughout the day today. The family has reported the incident to the

police.

MoU with Chinese

Kathmandu: The Lumbini Bauddha University (LBU) and Buddhist Wanshou Temple (BWT) based in Yangming Mountain, China, today signed a memorandum of understanding to foster academic relations between the two institutions. In a press statement, LBU said LBU Vice Chancellor Prof Tri Ratna Manandhar and Ven Mahavayaka Yan Zang Maha Thera, deputy secretary general of the Buddhist Association of China, signed the MoU.According to the statement, Nepals Ambassador to China Tanka Prasad Karki and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Qui Guohung were also present at the ceremony.

UML man abducted


PHIDIM: Seven hours after his abduction from his home in Olane VDC-7 on Sunday night, Dhan Prasad Sawa, a local leader of the CPN-UML, managed to escape from the abductorss clutches, DSP of the Panchthar District Police Office, Rajeshnath Bastola, said. Bastola said that the reason behind the abduction is yet to be known. Police are providing him security at his home.

River pollution report

BIRGUNJ: A monitoring committee formed to probe pollution in ! the Sirs iya River has concluded that 46 large-scale industries located along the Birgunj-Pathalaiya Industrial Corridor are behind the rising pollution in the river. The panel coordinator, Ritesh Tiwari, presented its report to Parsa CDO Nagendra Jha. Among others, textiles liquor, iron, and food processing industries and Birgunj submetropolis office are causing pollution by dumping effluents and garbage into the river, the report says. Jha has pledged to implement the suggestions made in the report.
